IRCTC has achieved a new milestone by recording its highest-ever single-day ticket bookings, with 20.06 lakh train tickets booked in a single day. The record came as passengers began making advance reservations for the upcoming festive travel season, when demand for railway tickets traditionally rises sharply. The booking rush continued the following day, when another 19.51 lakh tickets were booked.

The latest figures highlight how strongly passengers now depend on digital platforms for railway reservations. Online bookings account for around 89% of railway reservations, making the performance of IRCTC’s digital infrastructure increasingly important during peak travel periods. To handle the heavy traffic, IRCTC has also expanded the capacity of its ticket-booking website, with the system’s capacity reportedly doubled to manage larger volumes of users.

The record booking numbers reflect the growing demand for train travel during the festive season and the increasing shift toward online ticket reservations. With millions of passengers trying to secure seats around the same time, stronger digital infrastructure can help improve the booking experience and reduce disruptions during peak periods.
