A major maritime tragedy has struck the Philippines Ferry Fire after the passenger ferry MV June Aster caught fire while travelling from Manila toward Coron in Palawan province. The incident happened on Wednesday evening as the vessel was nearing its destination. According to the latest reports, at least five people have died, while more than 80 passengers remain missing. Around 43 people have been rescued so far.

The ferry was carrying 134 people, including 117 passengers and 17 crew members. Survivors described hearing an explosion before the fire spread rapidly through the vessel. Authorities believe the blaze may have started around the cargo area, although the exact cause has not yet been established.

The Philippine Coast Guard, military personnel, local fishermen and other rescue teams are involved in the search operation. Rough seas, strong currents, smoke and difficult visibility have made the rescue effort challenging. Firefighters have also boarded the badly damaged vessel as authorities continue looking for survivors and investigating what caused the fire.
